My friend Jolly is very talented. She sews things together very nicely – words, art, small monsters. Over the course of our 13 year friendship she has created for me many things, including drawings, poems, stories and other hand-made items.

I usually receive these things with birthday and Christmas presents, and there is often a drawing inserted in a birthday card. I look forward to this every year.

Even though the items are personal ie made solely for me, I would like to dedicate this post to friendship, generosity and creativity.

Instead of just wrapping this ring in tissue, Jolly decorated a box with black and silver ink. We both love cats and Halloween so it’s very fitting. It also hints at the gift inside.

The monster is actually a key ring. It was a nice gift to receive in the post when I was living away from home a few years ago. On the back the message reads ‘Dream On’.

Another Halloween greeting, with a ghost sewn in to the card.

The ghost lifts to reveal an illustration of a trick or treater.

A handmade book of poetry and illustrations I received for my birthday. The characters in the book are very imaginative: The Mormon Magician, The Girl Who Swallowed the Sun, and Little Boy Soldier, to name but a few.
